The Life and Times of Marsh Canion, W5KTC

Marsh was a home town boy that grew up to be a prominent business man in Port Lavaca. He may have been the first, and for a long time the only, HAM in town.

Prior to WWII he was a radio operator on a merchant ship (perhaps more than one). Also during the war he worked at the FCC listening post at Kingsville where he monitored the German CW traffic out of Mexico and from German subs in the Gulf.

After the war he was the Canion in Moore and Canion Insurance. He ran that business until his death.

He was an avid CW operator, and also a good Elmer. Oddly, on the air, he used the handle of Frank.

The club obtained the W5KTC call sign sometime in the 1980's.
